How It Started

Frank grew up in Lynn, a few blocks off Union Street, in one of the city’s classic triple-deckers. He spent eight years working the truck for another North Shore moving outfit before deciding he could run it better himself. In 2011, he did — with one truck, two guys he trusted, and a simple standard: no subcontractors, no day-labor, ever.

Why We Don’t Use Subcontractors

A lot of moving companies fill out a busy week with day-labor crews they’ve never worked with before. Frank Moving doesn’t. Every mover on the truck is a Frank Moving employee, trained by the same crew chiefs, every time — that’s the only way we can promise the crew that quotes your move is the crew that shows up.

Lynn’s Triple-Deckers

Lynn’s housing stock is full of narrow triple-decker staircases and walk-ups with no elevator, and pricing a job like that over the phone doesn’t work. Before Frank Moving quotes an apartment or residential move, Frank walks the building himself — the stairs, the turns, the parking — so the number he gives you is the number that holds on move day.

Eight Years Carrying Other People’s Furniture Before Frank Bought His Own Truck

Frank Sullivan grew up a few blocks off Union Street, in one of the triple-deckers that make up half of Lynn’s housing stock, and spent eight years learning the business the hard way — working the truck for another North Shore mover, hauling other people’s couches up other people’s narrow staircases. In 2011 he bought his own truck and brought two coworkers he already trusted along with him, setting one rule that hasn’t changed since: everyone on the truck works for Frank Moving directly, no subcontractors, no rented crew filling a gap.

Frank, Marie, Sean, Tommy, and Angela run this business day to day, and nobody wears a Frank Moving shirt without actually being one of our ten employees. No rental crew shows up on a busy Saturday, and no subcontractor ever gets handed your job.

Triple-Decker Stairs Are Just Tuesday

Nobody on this crew learned about third-floor walk-ups from a training manual. Tommy figured out years ago which Lynn blocks need a parking permit sorted before the truck even shows up, and Marblehead’s colonial lanes stopped being a surprise a long time back.

Quoted In Person, Not Off A Phone Script

A phone estimate is a guess dressed up as a number. Frank or Sean would rather see the stairs themselves, which is why the figure that gets written down survives contact with move day — nothing grows once the truck’s already parked outside.

Stayed Small On Purpose

Growing past ten people would mean handing the phone to someone Frank hasn’t trained himself, so he hasn’t done it. A couple of franchise offers came and went over the years — turning them down kept the crew small enough that everyone still knows each other.
